My Library Day is.....
Monday: Grades 1, 2, 3
Tuesday: Grades 4,5,6 and Kindergarten
All books are due on Mondays or Tuesdays, so students can select a new book. Of course, books may be returned any school day, but it is easiest for your child to do this on their Library Day. Books may be renewed twice for a total of 3 weeks. Bring books in each week to renew them in person.
How Many Books?
Kindergarten:
Students may select one book for a loan period of one week. Students cannot check out another book until the original one is returned.
1st Grade:
Students may select one book for a loan period of one week, which may be taken home. Following February vacation, students with accounts in good standing may borrow an additional book.
Grades 2-3
Students may select two books for a loan period of one week, which may be taken home.
Grades 4-6
Students may select three* books for a loan period of one week, which may be taken home. If their book is for a book report, the loan period may extend to four weeks. Additional books will be permitted in connection with curricular projects for students with current library accounts.
Responsible Borrowers
We encourage students to be responsible borrowers and to return library books when due. We also encourage students to take proper care of all library materials. We do not fine students for overdue books, but if students do have overdue books, they will be unable to borrow further materials from the library until their overdue books are returned. When needed for longer, books may be renewed.
Lost and Damaged Books
We do ask parents to reimburse the school for books that have been lost or irreparably damaged. If the assessed fine is a financial hardship, the WES Library is happy to accept a donation of a book of similar value. After a fine is paid, students may keep a damaged book. If a lost book is then found it may be kept if the fine has already been paid. However, once a fine is paid for a lost book, the school cannot refund the fine.
Parents, Guardians, and Mentors
You are welcome to check out books from the library. The best time to visit the library is before or after school. We are staffed on Monday and Tuesdays during the school day. Should you need to borrow materials on a different day, please let the main office know you are here. Use the sign-out sheet on the library desk. All book returns should be placed in the return bin by the librarians desk.
Book Borrowing Procedures
Library classes at Waterville Elementary School will focus first on location skills, book care, and book borrowing procedures. Check-outs will begin at the beginning of the school year. While reinforcing these skills, students will be able to check out one book at a time. Borrowing will resume to the class levels after the first few weeks of successful returns.
Overdue notices are printed out as needed. They are sent home with the student but will be mailed home as needed. Students may lose check out privileges until books are returned. Students may use the save box to hold their chosen book for a week so until the overdue book is returned.
A few helpful reminders: Find a handy place to keep your child's library book at home. Read and share your child's book choice together often. "Loved" books are less likely to be misplaced! Help young children remember to pack their library book in time for library day.
Reading takes you places!
