- Literacy Resources
It can be challenging to know what books to help our children read. We want books to be "just right" for their reading level and still be interesting. So many new books come out each year, it is hard to keep up! Here are some resources that provide book reviews and guidance to help you and your child when looking at books:
On this website, you can search by book title, age, topic, parent recommended, and award winners. It has an age-appropriate rating system, using green, yellow, and red circles. It also has a learning rating for each book.
2. Good Reads
Good Reads gives you book summary, but not age appropriateness or level. You can set up an account (free), but you can also browse without an account. You can also search for a title and see reviews.
The Children’s Book Review allows you to browse books by subject and books by age, along with “trending” books and “showcase” books. The book review lays out the specs (intended age, page count, etc.) and provides a medium-sized review with information about the author and/or illustrator.
